Picture the particular taste that arrives when you bite into something — not sweet or salty in general, but the specific character of it: this is strawberry, this is smoke, this is home cooking. Flavour is that character. Once you have the idea of a character you can taste, English extends it to places, stories and moods, which have a character you can sense in the same way.

可以想成：咬下去的那一瞬間浮出來的那個味道——不是籠統的甜或鹹，而是它專屬的性格：這是草莓、這是煙燻、這是家常菜的味道。flavour 講的就是這份「性格」。而一旦有了「可以嚐到的性格」這個想法，英文自然把它推到地方、故事、氛圍上——那些東西同樣有一種可以感覺到的味道。
