You can think of placement as the moment of putting something into its spot, plus the decision of which spot that should be. A hand sets a vase down on one exact corner of the table: before, the thing had nowhere to be; now it has somewhere. Whatever gets placed — a piece of furniture, an on a page, or a person who needs a home or a job — the picture stays the same: finding a place, and giving it to something.
