Kind grows from one old idea: the nature you share with your own family. From 'things of the same nature' you get the noun — a kind is a group that is alike in nature, a type or sort. From 'feeling the way family naturally feels toward each other' you get the adjective — being kind is treating others with that warm, family-like care. So one record holds two branches sharing a single root: 'same nature → a type', and 'natural family-feeling → being caring'.

From Old English (ge)cynd 'nature, innate character', from Proto-Germanic *kunjam 'family' (the root of kin). The noun 'type/sort' came from 'things of the same nature'; the adjective 'caring' came from 'the natural feeling relatives have for one another'.
