To show or suggest that someone took part in a crime or in something dishonest. The thing that does this is usually evidence, a report, or what someone has said.

A knot of string. Something gets folded in among the other threads, so that when you pull the knot, it comes with it. The word does not say the thread tied itself in. It says it is now part of the knot.

From Latin implicare, to entangle or involve, from plicare, to fold. English imply and employ come from the same root.
來源資料指出它來自拉丁文 implicō（纏住、捲入），再往上是 plicō（折）。imply 和 employ 是同一條線上的親戚。「折進去、纏在一起」這個老畫面，就是今天兩個用法共同的底。
