Picture a circle drawn around what counts, and something deliberately left outside it — off the list, out of the price, out of the room. Exclude is that leaving-out, and it is always a decision someone made. Leave a person outside and it stings; leave a possibility outside and you have ruled it out.
可以想成：畫一個圈，圈起「算數的東西」，然後刻意把某樣東西留在圈外——不列入清單、不含在價格裡、不准進門。exclude 就是這個「留在外面」，而且一定是有人做的決定。被留在外面的如果是人，會很難受；如果是一種可能性，那就是把它從答案裡刪掉了。
