取消資格
One way to picture it: someone was on the list of people allowed to take part — and a hand crosses their name off, because something about them no longer fits the rules. The door that was open to them is now closed.
本來有一份「可以參加的人」的名單，某個人的名字原本在上面，但因為某個條件不符合了，就被劃掉。qualify 是「讓你合格、讓你有資格站進來」，前面加上 dis- 這個表示「反過來、拿掉」的部分，整個字就變成把那個資格收回去。重點不在你能力好不好，而在「你被判定不符合條件，所以這扇門對你關上了」。

dis- (reversal, removal) + qualify (to make someone fit or eligible) — literally 'to un-qualify', to take away the fitness that let someone in.
這個字是由 dis- 加上 qualify 組成的。dis- 一路上溯到拉丁文的 dis-，帶著「分開、相反、取消」的意味（英文裡的 disagree、disappear 都是同一個零件）；qualify 則是「使符合資格」。兩個零件合起來，字面就是「把資格反過來拿掉」——這正好就是今天 disqualify 的核心畫面，一個原本成立的資格被撤銷。
