Picture a at a gate deciding whether to let someone or something through. That act — to let in — is the root of admit. You can let a person in through a door, or let a fact in through the guard you keep up.

可以想成門口有個守門的人，決定要不要放你通過。admit 的核心畫面比較像這個『放進來』的動作——可以放一個人進場，也可以放一句話、一個事實進到你心裡。

From the word’s history

From Latin admittere 'to let in, allow to enter,' from ad- 'to' + mittere 'to send, let go.' The physical 'let in' is the root; 'concede that something is true' (early 15c.) is letting a statement in past your resistance.

來自拉丁文 admittere（放進來、准許進入），由 ad-（朝向）加 mittere（送出、放行）組成。原意就是實體的『讓…進來』；後來『承認某事屬實』其實是把一句原本擋著不想接受的話放進門。
