Allowed in; acceptable under the rules, especially the rules of a court. Admissible evidence may be shown to the judge or jury. The word can stretch a little — an admissible argument is one that is reasonable to make; an admissible excuse is one the rules will even consider — but its home is law. Formal. It lines up with admit in the “let in” sense, not the “I admit I was wrong” sense, though those are historically the same verb. If something is not admissible, it is : the court will not hear it.
