You can picture it as aside on a road: you were blocking the way, the other side kept pushing, and in the end you move and let it through. What gets let through may be a point in an argument, a game, a goal, or a right — but there is always resistance first, then giving way.

「讓路」：你本來站在路中間擋著，對方一直推、一直逼，最後你側身讓開，讓那個東西通過。拉丁字根 concēdō 就是「完全讓開、退讓」的意思，所以 concede 的每一個用法裡都有一個「本來不想讓、但撐不住而放行」的動作——讓開的可能是一句話（承認對方說得對）、一場比賽（認輸）、一分球（沒守住）、或一項權利（讓出去）。重點不是大方給予，而是抵抗之後的退讓。

Latin concēdō = con- (wholly) + cēdō (to yield, give way, go). Literally "to step wholly aside". The same cēdō root shows up in recede and proceed.

拉丁 concēdō 由 con-（完全地）+ cēdō（讓開、退讓、走開）組成，字面就是「整個人讓開」。cēdō 這個字根在英文裡到處都是：recede（往後退）、proceed（往前走）、yield 的同義詞群。理解 concede 時，把它讀成「con-（徹底）+ cede（讓開）」，四個用法就會一次通了——不管讓開的是面子、勝利、分數還是權利，動作都是同一個。
