A note on this entry first: only sense 1 actually belongs to the adverb wisely. The other six are senses and fixed phrases of the adjective wise (none the wiser, wise guy, get wise to, be wise after the event) — they have been listed under the adverb, but you cannot say them with wisely. One way to hold the shared idea: seeing the situation clearly enough to choose well — usually because you have been through something like it before.
