Picture a line drawn at the level something needs to reach, and the amount you have arriving exactly at that line. Sufficient can be thought of as 'it reaches the mark' — the job can be done, nothing is missing. It says nothing about extra: enough to finish, not necessarily enough to feel comfortable.
