You can picture a hand reaching into a group and lifting out just the right one — not at random, but the best or most suitable. That act of carefully picking out is the core; the adjective is simply the result: the few that have been picked out, set apart from the rest.

可以想成一隻手伸進一群東西裡,挑出剛剛好的那一個——不是隨便抓,而是挑最好、最合適的。這個「仔細挑出來」的動作,就是整個字的核心。形容詞用法只是這個動作的結果:被挑出來的那一小撮,跟其他的分開、自成一格。
