Normal and average — the same as most other people or things, not special or different.
普通
Picture a row of very similar things and one of them picked out at random — nothing about it makes it stand out. That is ordinary: sitting right in the middle of what is usual. The second use is the same word with a small change in tone. Sometimes 'nothing stands out' is just a description; sometimes, especially when you expected more, it turns into a quiet complaint.
