    A child who goes to school. It is used for boys and girls who are old enough for school, and very often for a group of them rather than one.

    「schoolchild」就是「有在上學的小孩」，school（學校）加 child（小孩），可以想成兩個字直接黏在一起長出來的。它最常用複數 schoolchildren，用來講「一群學童」，例如新聞、公告、通知上寫的 local schoolchildren（當地學童）。跟 student 的差別在年紀和說話的人：student 什麼年紀都能用，大學生也是 student；schoolchild 一定是小孩，而且多半是大人在講小孩（老師、記者、館方），小孩自己聊天時通常還是說 kids 或 students。

Think of the word as two plain pieces glued together: school + child. It points at a child seen in their school role — old enough to be in class, usually pictured as part of a crowd in uniform, streaming out of the gate at four o'clock rather than as one particular kid you know by name.
