Picture inked letters being pressed down onto a sheet of paper, and lifted away. The same shapes come out again and again, each copy exactly like the last. One way to hold printing is to keep that press in view: sometimes the word means the pressing, sometimes one batch that came off it, sometimes the paper it produced — and once, a hand copying the look of it letter by letter.
