    口語Your grandmother — the mother of your father or the mother of your mother. It is the everyday word people say at home, and it can also be used on its own as a name when you talk to her.

    grandma 就是 grandmother 的口語說法：家裡講話、跟朋友聊天都用 grandma，寫信、填表格才用 grandmother。它有兩種用法，差別在前面有沒有東西：說「別人的奶奶」時前面要加 my／your／Ren's（my grandma）；直接叫她的時候，Grandma 當名字用，大寫、前面什麼都不加（Grandma, can I help?）。grand- 可以想成家族樹上「往上一層」，所以 grandma 是媽媽或爸爸的媽媽，再往上一層就是 great-grandma。
