To order that something must not be done, using your power or the law.
禁止；不許
A door closed by someone with the authority to close it: you may not go through. The closing is done by a person or a rule, out loud. From there the word moves in two directions — a set phrase that asks fate to keep a bad door shut, and a formal use where the thing doing the closing is not a person at all but a shortage of time or space.
可以想成：有權力的人把一扇門關上，並且說出來——你不可以過去。關門的是人或規定，而且是明講的。從這個畫面，字往兩邊走：一邊是固定說法，把「請把那扇壞事的門關著」講給老天聽；另一邊是正式用法，關門的不再是人，而是時間不夠、空間不夠這類客觀條件。
