Think of someone who weighed the thing in their mind before acting. Two different pictures come out of that one act of weighing: what they did was chosen, not an accident — and the doing itself is , each word or movement given its own moment, the way a person moves when they are not rushing.

From Latin deliberatus, past participle of deliberare 'consider carefully, consult', literally 'weigh well': de- (here 'entirely') + -liberare, altered from librare 'to balance, make level', from libra 'pair of scales, a balance'. The scales image explains both modern senses — a weighed choice, and an unhurried, measured manner.
字根裡真的有一副天秤。etymonline 記載 deliberate 來自拉丁文 deliberare「仔細考量」，字面是「好好地秤」：de-（這裡表「徹底地」）＋ librare「使平衡、擺平」，而 librare 出自 libra「一副天秤」（也就是星座天秤座那個 Libra）。天秤這個畫面剛好把現代的兩個意思都接起來了：秤過才放手，所以是「刻意的」；秤東西的人手要穩、不能急，所以也是「從容、不慌不忙的」。
