One way to hold `knowingly` is to picture the knowledge already sitting inside the person before the action starts. Know + -ing + -ly: doing it with `I know` switched on. From there the word splits by where that knowing is aimed. Aim it outward, at another person's face, and it becomes a look that says I know. Keep it inward, as the facts you had in hand, and it becomes the word rules use to separate a choice from an accident.
