An action that keeps coming back at you — the pauses are too short to count as rest, so it feels like it never really stops.
一個動作一直回來找你。可能像雨一樣連著下不停，也可能像有人每隔幾分鐘就敲一次門——中間是有停的，但停得太短，短到你還沒放鬆下一次就又來了。continually 是 continual 加上副詞尾 -ly，所以它形容的是「動作發生的方式」：不是做了一次，是這件事一直在重演。也因為那種「又來了」的節奏，這個字常常聽得出說話者的不耐煩。

continual + the English adverb suffix -ly (from Old English -līċe "in the manner of"); continual traces to Latin continuus "uninterrupted", from contineō (con- "together" + teneō "hold") — "in a manner of holding on without letting go".
continually 就是 continual 加上英文副詞尾 -ly（源自古英語 -līċe，本義「以…的樣子」）。continual 上溯拉丁文 continuus（不間斷的），出自 contineō（con- 一起 ＋ teneō 握住）。所以整個字面是「以握著不放的方式」——動作被一直握著，不讓它結束。
