You can picture a light being switched on inside someone: things that were there all along — a smell in the kitchen, a sound behind you, a problem in the office — are suddenly registered. Awareness is that switched-on state, first for what your senses pick up, then for what you know is going on.
可以想成一個人心裡的燈被打開了：本來就在那裡的東西——廚房飄來的味道、身後的聲音、公司裡的一個問題——忽然被接收到了。awareness 說的就是這種「燈亮著」的狀態：先是感官接收得到，再擴大成心裡知道有這麼一回事。
