From Latin ignōrantia, from ignōrāre 'not to know' — built on in- 'not' plus the root of gnōscere 'to know'. The word is literally a not-knowing, which is exactly the blank space the modern senses turn on.
來自拉丁文 ignōrantia，字面就是「不知道的狀態」：in-（不）＋ 與 gnōscere（知道）同源的詞根。經古法文 ignorance 進入英文。所以這個字從頭到尾就是「知的反面」——那個空白位置，而不是任何主動的錯誤。
