    unsuitable 是 suitable（合適）的相反，重點在「條件對不上」——這個東西、這個地方、這個人，本身沒有這件事需要的特質，所以不合用。可以想成 suit 本來就帶著「配得上、對得起來」的畫面（a colour that suits you），加上 un- 就變成「對不上」：鞋子跟山路對不上、教室跟自然課對不上、上班時間跟還在唸書的生活對不上。最常見的句型是 unsuitable for + 人／用途／場合。它跟 inappropriate 不一樣：inappropriate 多半在講行為或用語「不得體」，unsuitable 講的是「這個條件不合用」，所以拿來婉轉拒絕一個東西或一個人選時，聽起來就事論事，不帶責備。
