「took」就是 take 的過去式，意思完全跟 take 一樣，只是時間往前移到已經發生的事。take 有很多用法——帶著東西走（took my umbrella）、搭交通工具（took the bus）、做一個小動作（took a sip）、花掉多少時間（it took an hour）——不管是哪一種，過去式一律都是 took，形式不會變。take 是不規則動詞，沒有 taked 這個字；另外 took 是過去式，taken 是過去分詞，要跟 have／has／had 一起用。

This is not a word with a meaning of its own — it is take, already finished and in the past. Whatever picture take carries (a hand closing around something and moving it, a person getting on a bus, a job needing a certain amount of time), took is that same picture with the action already over.
