    terrify 是「害怕」這條線上最強的動詞：frighten 是害怕，scare 是嚇一跳、有點怕，terrify 是怕到腿軟、怕到不敢動。最重要的是它的句型跟中文相反——英文把「可怕的那個東西」放在主詞，把「人」放在受詞，例如 Speaking in public terrifies me（在眾人面前說話讓我怕得要命），中文則習慣從人開始說「我很怕…」。可以想成 terrify 是「把恐懼丟到某人身上」的動作，所以丟的人（或事）當主詞。
