You can picture the body's natural channels for taking in the world — sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell — the doors through which we pick something up. From that one idea, 'sense' stretches outward: from picking up the world through the body, to picking up a feeling inside, to the mind picking up meaning and judging wisely. Whether it's a nose smelling or a mind a point, sense is about picking something up and registering it.

可以想成：身體接收外在世界的天生管道——視、聽、觸、味、嗅——是我們「接收到」東西的門。從這一個概念，sense 往外伸展：從用身體接收世界，到內心接收到一種感覺，再到頭腦接收到意思、做出明智的判斷。不管是鼻子聞到，還是腦袋抓到一個重點，sense 講的都是「接收到、並登錄下來」這件事。
