正式The act of keeping or holding on to something instead of losing it or letting it go. You'll meet it in different areas: your body can have 'water retention' (holding extra water, so you feel puffy); a business talks about 'customer retention' or 'staff retention' (keeping customers or employees instead of losing them to somewhere else); and 'retention' of information means how well something stays in your memory.
