Picture a debt closing: something moved from them to you, and now something moves back the other way. The re- is the return trip. What travels back may be money, a favour, or simply the value you got out of the time you spent — but the shape is always two directions, and the second one balances the first.
一筆帳被結清：東西先從對方那邊過來給你，現在有東西往回走。re- 就是那趟「回程」。往回走的可以是錢、可以是人情、也可以是你投入時間之後得到的收穫——形狀永遠是兩個方向，而第二個方向把第一個補平。這個畫面很有用，因為它解釋了為什麼 repay 一定預設「先有一件事發生過」：沒有人借你錢、沒有人幫過你、你沒有先花力氣，就沒有東西需要往回送。
