One way to picture pressing: a weight coming down and pushing hard on something. Sometimes the thing under the weight gives up what is inside it, like oil out of olives. Sometimes it changes shape and keeps it, like a disc or a shirt. And sometimes the thing being pushed on is you: a problem sits on your day with its whole weight, so you deal with it first. Even on a football pitch, a team that is pressing is pushing forward on whoever has the ball.
