可以想成「份量很重」：這件事舉足輕重，因為它一動，後面很多事都會跟著變。從「事情份量重」這個畫面，延伸到「人份量重」——一個有份量的人，講話、做事都能左右別人，所以是有地位、有影響力的。
From the word’s history
From Latin 'importare' 'to bring in, carry in', later 'to be of consequence, matter' — the sense of something that 'carries weight'.
源自拉丁文 importare「帶進來、引入」，後來引申為「有份量、有關係」，也就是「壓得有份量」的意思，與 import（進口）同源。可以看出核心比較像「份量重、舉足輕重」。
