Two things placed face to face, pointing at each other from opposite ends — two teams at either end of the field, two arrows aimed head-on. Whatever follows the word comes in a pair, and the pair is set against itself.
可以想成兩樣東西被擺在兩頭、臉對著臉的畫面：球場一邊一隊，或兩支箭頭直直對著彼此。opposing 幾乎都放在名詞前面，而且暗示「有兩邊」——講 opposing 的時候，另一邊一定也在場，兩邊還互相牴觸。
