Picture something running along without a break — a sentence, a process, a straight line of hedge — and something else cutting into it so the run stops there. Interrupt is that cutting-in. The thing interrupted was continuous, and after the cut it either starts again or is left with a gap in it.

可以想成：有樣東西正一路不間斷地進行——一句話、一個流程、一排整齊的樹籬——然後另一樣東西插進來，那個「一路下去」就在那裡斷了。interrupt 講的就是這個插入。被打斷的東西本來是連續的，被切之後要嘛重新開始，要嘛就留下一個缺口。
