Picture a speaker who stops mid-sentence, holds the silence for a second, and then carries on. The stopping is temporary and the restart is already assumed — that is what separates a pause from an end. The button on a remote does exactly the same thing to a film.

可以想成：說話的人講到一半停下來，讓那個安靜維持一兩秒，然後接著講。這個停是暫時的，而且「等一下會再開始」已經包含在裡面了——這正是 pause 跟「結束」最大的差別。遙控器上的那個鍵，對電影做的也是同一件事。
