    Someone who comes to another country from their own country in order to live there for good, not just to visit or to stay for a short time.

    immigrant 講的是「人」，而且是搬進這個國家、打算長住下來的人。中文一個「移民」把方向藏起來了，英文卻分得很清楚：同一個人，站在他抵達的國家看是 immigrant，站在他離開的國家看是 emigrant。可以想成 migrate（遷徙）前面掛 im-（往裡）就是搬進來，掛 e-（往外）就是搬出去。permanently 這一層不能丟——來玩、來出差半年的人都不算。跟 refugee 的差別在原因：refugee 是家鄉不安全才離開。這個字可數，單數要加 an。
