A newcomer is a person who has just arrived somewhere or just started doing something — a new student is a newcomer to the school, a new player is a newcomer to the team, a new company is a newcomer to the market. It's a neutral, friendly word, not rude at all — it just means 'someone new here'. You'll hear it used about people and sometimes about companies or products, but not usually about objects.
