One way to picture genuine: you hold something up and check whether the inside matches the label on the outside. If they match, it is genuine. The word almost always answers an unspoken question — could this be fake? — so it carries a faint shadow of the copy, the act, or the lie it is not.
可以想成 genuine 是把一樣東西拿起來對照：外面寫的、看起來的，跟裡面真正的東西是不是同一個？對得起來就是 genuine。這個字幾乎都在回答一個沒說出口的疑問——「這會不會是假的？」——所以它身上總帶著一點「假貨、演戲、謊言」的影子，只是答案是「不是」。
