You can think of evidently as pointing at your reason: you are not stating a fact directly, you are reading it off something — a sign in front of you, or what someone told you. The word quietly says 'here is where I got this'.
說話的人不是直接宣布事實，而是「從某個線索讀出來的」。他手上有東西——地上的水漬、對方的臉色、別人講的一句話——然後從那裡推出結論。所以 evidently 這個字其實在偷偷交代來源：「我不是憑空講的，我是根據某個東西講的。」也正因為是推出來的、不是親眼確認的，它永遠留著一點點退路，不像 certainly 那樣把話說死。
