You can picture dizzy as the moment the room starts turning: you have stood up too fast, or you are ill, or you have just looked down from a high balcony — and suddenly the ground will not hold still, so you have to grab something. Everything else the word does grows out of that one body-feeling: what makes you dizzy can be a height, a speed, or your own scattered head.
