criticise 是 criticize 的英式拼法，意思一樣。英國的考試和書多半用這個拼法。

Picture someone looking closely at a thing and then saying out loud what they judge about it. In everyday use the judgement is the negative half — you point out what is wrong. In the professional sense the same close look reports both halves, good and bad, which is why a film critic is not simply someone who complains.
可以想成：一個人仔細看過某樣東西之後，把心裡的判斷說出口。日常用法裡說出來的是負面的那一半——指出哪裡不好。專業用法裡同樣是仔細看，但好壞兩面都要講，這也是為什麼影評人並不等於愛挑毛病的人。中文的「批評」偏負面，英文的 criticize 則要看場合。
