You can picture two things actually touching — fingertip on a table, one wire pressing against another. From that bare moment of touch, everything else grows: touch becomes reaching out to a person, and a closed circuit of connection.

From the word’s history

From Latin 'contingere' (com- 'together' + tangere 'to touch'), literally 'to touch together'; the touch sense is the original.

源自拉丁文 contingere（com-「一起」＋ tangere「碰觸」），字面就是「一起碰到」。所以「接觸」這個碰觸的意思是最原始的，其他用法都是從這裡長出來的。
