A net — many lines crossing and tying together at points (knots), so the whole thing is one connected web spread over a wide area. Anything built like that net — roads, wires, computers, or people — is a network.

可以想成：把「網子」拆開看——許多線條互相交叉，在交叉點打結相連，整片連成一張鋪得很開的網。network 就是「net（網）＋ work（編織成的東西）」：任何東西只要是這樣一個點連一個點、織成一整片在大範圍裡互通的，就是一張 network。道路、電線、電腦、人——畫面都是同一張網。

'network' = net + work: literally 'work (a structure) made in the fashion of a net' — an arrangement of threads crossing at regular intervals. The modern abstract senses all extend this woven-net picture.

network＝net（網）＋work（編織成的構造），字面就是「像網一樣編出來的東西」——線在固定間隔交叉的結構。現代各種抽象用法（電腦網路、人脈）都是從這張「編織的網」的畫面延伸出去的。
