Picture the last page closing. Something that was running — a story, a meeting, a line of thinking, a set of negotiations — has reached its end and is now shut. From that closing, English gets two useful things: the ending itself, and whatever you are left holding when the thinking stops.

可以想成：最後一頁合上的那一刻。一件正在進行的事——一個故事、一場會議、一串思考、一場談判——走到了盡頭，關起來了。從這個「合上」的動作，英文取到兩樣東西：一個是結尾本身，另一個是思考停下來之後你手上留著的那個答案。學這個字時，把「結尾」和「結論」看成同一個動作的兩面，會比分開背輕鬆。
