You can think of alarmed as the second an alarm goes off. Inside a person, the alarm is the jump of attention: Mei smells smoke, and before she has worked anything out she is alarmed. On a door or a building, the alarm is a real box on the wall, switched on and waiting: this door is alarmed. Same warning, two places for it — in the chest, or on the wall.
「alarmed」可以想成「警報響起來」的那一刻。放在人身上，響的是心裡那聲警報：聞到燒焦味、聽到壞消息，還沒想清楚，注意力就先跳起來了。放在門或大樓上，響的是牆上真的那台機器：裝好了、開著、等著，有人一推門就叫。一個字，兩個地方可以裝警報——一個在胸口，一個在牆上。
