Think of the senses as separate channels coming into you: one through the ears, one through the eyes. Visual can be thought of as the label on the eye channel — it marks everything that arrives by looking. That is why it so often turns up next to its opposite number: visual and audio, sound and vision, what you hear against what you see on the screen.
