Something that was sitting steady gets knocked out of its settled position: the cup goes over, and what was inside spills across the table.

可以想成本來穩穩擺好的東西，被一下子撞歪、翻了過來，裡面的東西跟著灑出來——杯子倒了、棋盤翻了，原本安放好的秩序被掀掉。其他用法多半是把這個「被掀翻」的畫面搬到心情、腸胃、計畫或賽果上。要提醒的是：這一條底下列的六個意思其實都屬於動詞 upset；upsetting 是它的 -ing 形，單獨當形容詞時只有「令人難過的」這一個意思。
