From Anglo-Norman tresor trové, "found treasure", a calque of Latin thesaurus inventus; the past participle trové ("found") was later read in English as a noun, which is why the discovery is built into the word.
來自盎格魯諾曼法語的 tresor trové，意思是「被找到的寶藏」，這又是拉丁文 thesaurus inventus 的仿譯。原本 trové 是過去分詞「被找到的」，進了英文之後被當成名詞用，所以今天看起來像兩個名詞。這條線索正好解釋了為什麼這個字的「發現感」拿不掉。
