You can picture one long burst of hard, repeated hitting: a stick or a hand coming down again and again, and the thing underneath jerking about with every blow. Everything this noun does can be seen inside that one picture. Look at the hand and you get a beating. Look at what is being hit and you get wild, movement. Look at a match where one side is hit again and again and never recovers, and you get a crushing defeat.

可以想成一連串停不下來的猛打：手或棍子一下接一下落下，底下的東西每挨一下就彈一次。這個名詞的各種用法，都能在這一個畫面裡找到位置。看動手的那一邊，就是「打一頓」。看挨打的那一邊，就是「亂甩亂動」。看一場一方被打到爬不起來的比賽，就是「慘敗」。要注意的是，這是一個方便記憶的角度，不是在講字源。
