One way to hold it: style is the look a thing has, and -ing turns that into the work of giving it that look, plus the look you end up with. So styling always points at the made surface of something — the shape somebody decided on — rather than at what it does or how well it works.
可以想成 style 是「一個東西看起來的樣子」，-ing 把它變成「把那個樣子做出來這件事」，以及做出來的結果。所以 styling 一直指向一個被做出來的表面：有人決定了它長這樣。它不管功能，也不管好不好用。
