Picture a bicycle wheel: thin straight bars run from the hub at the centre out to the rim, like rays from a sun. Each one of those bars is a 'spoke'. The core image is that single thin rod bridging centre and edge — and once you have that picture, the idiom about jamming a stick into someone's wheel follows naturally.

This 'spoke' is simply the past tense of the verb 'speak' — the form you use for words that came out of someone's mouth at an earlier time. It carries no image of its own; it borrows the whole picture of 'speak' (producing words aloud) and just places it in the past.

這個 spoke 其實就是動詞 speak（說話）的過去式——用來指「先前某個時候說出口的話」。它本身沒有獨立的畫面，整個意思都借自 speak（出聲說出話語），只是把那個動作放到過去。注意：它和「輪輻」那個 spoke 只是剛好拼法相同，兩者來源不同、毫無關係。
