    Soluble describes a substance that can dissolve in a liquid, usually water, meaning it mixes in completely and disappears into the liquid rather than staying as separate solid pieces — sugar and salt are soluble in water, but sand is not. Some medicines are made as 'soluble' tablets, meaning you dissolve them in water before drinking them, rather than swallowing a solid pill. Less commonly, in more formal writing, 'soluble' can also describe a problem that can be solved — though 'solvable' is the more everyday word for that meaning.
